East Machias home invasion

The Washington County Sheriff's office reported that on Saturday, Dec. 9 the Washington County Regional Communications Center (RCC) received a 911 call from a woman in East Machias reporting a home invasion.

The woman said that a man had entered her home brandishing a weapon and demanding money. The suspect left on foot, and the RCC dispatched deputies to the scene. The deputies were assisted by the Machias Police Department, Maine State Police and Maine Marine Patrol.

Colby Hilman Kilton, Sr. - East Machias, ME

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Colby Hilman Kilton, Sr., 68, on November 25, 2017.

Colby was predeceased by his father Gerald, mother Louise, papa Barton, brother Gerald Jr., and sister Carolyn.

Colby is survived by his sons C.J. and Joseph, who gave him much pride, by his sisters, Jo Ann and Patti, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his friend, Carla.

A celebration of Colby’s life will be held at a later date.

Colby will always be remembered and sadly missed by those who loved him.

East Machias woman dies in car accident

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department reported that on Sunday, Nov. 26 the Washington County Regional Control Center (RCC) received a 911 call reporting an accident on Route 192 in the town of Wesley. 

The RCC dispatched deputies, the Wesley Fire Department and Downeast ambulance. The Maine Warden Service and State Police also responded to the crash. Upon arrival, emergency crews confirmed a single vehicle was traveling toward Machias, lost control and had rolled over in the roadway.

Volunteer firefighters contain Marshfield forest fire

Midday reports of smoke in a Marshfield forest led area fire departments to investigate on the ground while the Maine Forest Service investigated from the air. The fire was located on a section of land operated by Wagner Forest Management, and spread to cover roughly six acres. Marshfield Fire Chief Daniel Bowker said the fire was caused by a logging operation.
