Gloria Adell Hayward Columbia Falls
Born October 3, 1927 in Columbia Falls, the daughter of Austin C. and Laura (Gilman) Allen.
She attended Columbia Falls schools and graduated in the class of 1945 from Columbia Falls High School. She attended and graduated from Washington State Normal School and U.M.M. with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Columbia Falls.
She taught in Centerville, Columbia Falls, East Corinth, and Machias. She retired as supervisor of the business department of a Milbridge nursing home.
She was a member of the Ruggles House Society and a docent there for many years. She also worked in the archive there. When Columbia Falls celebrated their 150th anniversary in 2013 for their separation from Columbia, she was appointed historian. She wrote and published the “History of Columbia Falls.”
Survivors include one son, Brent Hayward of Columbia, ME, a son-in-law, William Layman of Augusta, ME, and a son-in-law Michael Wieninger of Milbridge, ME, eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Alexander, his wife, Brittany and William Layman; Amy Sue and Christopher Wieninger; Christopher Hayward, his wife, Erica, Meagan Hayward, and Brian Hayward, his wife, Renee; seven great-grandchildren, “Cami” and “A.J.” Layman, Karter Hayward, Brooklyn Davis, Cailyn, Braydon, and Grayson Hayward, a brother, Vincent, and his wife Eva Allen of Bucksport, ME, a sister, Caroline Fellows of Raymond, ME, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Austin and Laura (Gilman) Allen, and two daughters, Belinda Wieninger, and Brenda Layman, their father Russell O. Hayward, and brother-in-law Oscar Fellows.
There will be a private family service at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Great Hill Cemetery in Columbia Falls, ME. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Columbia Falls, ME.
