The family of a missing Steuben fisherman who did not return home from hauling lobster traps in Jonesport July 21 has not given up hope that 18-year-old Tylar Michaud will be found, according to family friend Joline Brown. Brown, who spearheaded a community effort to raise almost $25,000 in two days, said that volunteers will scour air, land, and sea as the likelihood of Michaud’s survival diminishes with each passing day.

Ben Wiant of Romulus, New York has joined the Maine Marine Patrol as its newest Officer and will serve in the Washington County communities of Harrington, Jonesport, Beals and Addison.

Officer Wiant, who was sworn in recently by Department of Marine Resources Commissioner Patrick Keliher, has completed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Law Enforcement Pre-Service Training Program and is currently undergoing the Marine Patrol’s 45-day field training program.

Joe and Nancy Bell were walking their dog and picking up trash at the Jonesport campground recently and found this balloon in a tree. Someone named Caroline had written "I miss you" in Spanish. Vigorous debate erupted last week after Eastport Port Authority Executive Director Chris Gardner announced the possible arrival of the 785-foot Oceania Cruises vessel, Riviera, in the coming days or weeks. If approved, the vessel would arrive in Eastport carrying only crewmembers and could stay docked there for many weeks.
