Timber Creek to perform concert

For all who enjoy bluegrass, country, and gospel music, the Perry Congregational Church is the place to be on Saturday, July 22.  The Timber Creek band is known for its soft sound, gentle harmonies, and memorable tunes. Frank Seger of Perry on the mandolin is the leader, and he is joined by John Viselli of Cooper on guitar and banjo, Dr. Tom Holzen of Machias and Tennessee on rhythm guitar, and Jim O’Neil of Lubec playing a variety of instruments. With the audience tapping or clapping along, they have been known to make the floor rock.

Next Film Society Screening at Library on July 22

The next film screening of Machias Valley Film Society (MVFS) will take place at Porter Memorial Library on Saturday, July 22  from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The film is open to the public and free of charge. MVFS is a new non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating American and International Film Art and Culture. MVFS Group founder, and Lecturer of Education at University of Maine at Machias, Garret Lee, moderates a brief discussion at each film screening, and shares his wide understanding and enthusiasm for cinema.

The low-security state prison, located in the Bucks Harbor village of Machiasport, provides more than 45 jobs to the local economy.

In 2015, members of the Machias Rotary Club donated their time and hard work to reclaim the beauty that once was the Down East Community Hospital (DECH) courtyard. They weeded, cut back old growth and then planted hundreds of tulip bulbs.  Since then Master Gardener Susan Carlton has added her expertise, along with many plants.
