Lennox Crosby Ramsay, 90, of Addison, died March 28, 2018, at the Down East Community Hospital.

He was born on April 27, 1927, to Florence May Ramsay and Walter Robert Ramsay in Bear River, Nova Scotia.

Lennox moved with his family from Canada to Addison, Maine when he was seven years old. He made Addison his home for the rest of his life. 

Lennox attended school in Addison until he was drafted into the Army to serve in World War II at the end of his junior year of High School. He served his country defending the Panama Canal Zone until the war ended and he was honorably discharged. Upon leaving the Army, Lennox went back to Addison High School to complete his senior year and graduate. Lennox was a life- long learner and a true self-educated renaissance man. His knowledge of an endless variety of subjects was boundless.

Laura Katherine Dorr, the love of his life, and Lennox were married on December 23, 1950, and they had two children, Robert and Ronald Ramsay. Lennox and Laura were married for 58 years.

Lennox worked as a logger, worm digger, clam digger and wreath maker for most of his life. He worked in the woods, with his son Robert, operating a skidder every day until he was just a few months shy of his 80th birthday.  

He was a life-long member of the Addison Volunteer Fire Department, where he was the President for many years. He was a member of the Addison Budget Committee for several decades and was a member of the American Legion in Cherryfield.

Lennox was known around the community for volunteering to help out his fellow man by welding and fixing worm and clam hoes, repairing outboard motors and power saws, and pulling out stranded, stuck travelers from the annual spring mire on the Old Addison Road. 

Lennox was well known for his ability to innovate, invent, create, and repair, making something of great use out of practically nothing, using only limited tools, limited resources, and his outstanding aptitude and Downeast Ingenuity. 

He enjoyed the simple things in life, never desiring more than he needed, never wanting more than his share, always looking out for and helping others. He was a great man and mentor, who set the example of what all men should aspire to be.

Lennox loved and enjoyed spending time with his family. He relished his many memories of working with his sons on the mud flats and in the woods, spending time at Schoodic Lake, camping and fishing up in the Great North Woods and going on annual camping adventures with his sons and grandsons.

He is survived by his sons Robert, Ronald and his wife Tracy; his grandchildren Drew, Ryan, Taylor, Lauren and Anna Ramsay, all of Addison; his beloved sister Noreen Robinson and her family of Gardner and many special nieces, nephews and close friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Florence (May) Ramsay and his wife Laura Dorr Ramsay. Laura was the love of his life, his Sapphire, and by his own words the only woman he ever wanted.
